Come join Shaun Davies, Yugambeh linguist and advocate, for an enriching Aboriginal cultural experience at the Brigalow Country Club at Olivers Sports Complex. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the wetlands while learning about the Yugambeh culture and language.

Learn some basic words and phrases in the Yugambeh language and lay the foundations for fluency.

Yugambeh Reconciliation Markets

Whose keen for the Yugambeh Reconciliation Markets next month? Traditional ceremonies, free Aboriginal workshops on weaving, painting, didgeridoo, and more. Entertainment will be provided by Levinge Events, a sausage sizzle and coffee van stationed, and there will also be an elder's tent to drop in and have a yarn.

Opening BIG CITY LIGHTS* each evening the haunting vocals of Sophia Eurell will envelope the Southport CBD with a song of the emu and kangaroo of the night sky (Guruman and Nguruny), of the dreaming (Bujerahama), and how they dance (Ngarilehla).

SOPHIA EURELL

Sophia Eurell is a member of the Yugambeh language region, and a descendant from the Tweed river people and from Wollumbin. She sings in the Yugambeh language and has performed Welcome to Countries at various different events, including the opening of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and alongside the Wallabies Rugby Union Team. Sophia uses her voice to reflect her culture, and to express her own perspective of the world as a young person.

First Nations Artisan Markets

Experience the vibrant spirit of Sobah's bi-monthly First Nations Artisan Markets, a showcase of traditional and contemporary art, fashion, weaving, and craft, by local First Nations artisans.

Sip hot or cold brews, enjoy tasty meals, while talented artist Eleea serenades you with her soulful storytelling in song, from 11am.

You can also participate in cultural workshops and join our yarning circle to deepen your understanding of Indigenous traditions and perspectives.

Where: Sobah Brewery & Cafe, Unit 1, 314 Burleigh Connection Road, Burleigh Heads (next door to Kennards Hire).
